It all started with Excel.
Painstakingly expanded column by column: performance reviews, test scores, last promotion dates, talent statuses. I even remember one massive spreadsheet listing nearly 100 competencies across columns. People often assume that working in HR means using only soft skills. In reality, advanced Excel skills have become essential - not just in administrative or HR roles, but for managers across the board. We are all working with tons of data.
Having a professional Competency Hub in place is a dream come true for anyone in HR, delivery management, or consulting. Grounding decisions in data rather than speculation - that’s what we all strive for, isn’t it?
Usually, you need to pull data from multiple sources to get the complete picture:
- HR systems at varying levels of maturity,
- dedicated platforms for competency measurement (often provided by external vendors),
- and personal testimonials on possessed competencies.
And let’s not even open the Pandora’s box of “where to store all those personal certificates.” To make sound decisions, you need to use all of these sources. In fact, you should, because collecting this data takes time and effort, and we owe it to all the people involved not to let that effort go to waste.

As I mentioned in a previous article, a well-designed dashboard guarantees solid ROI - simply because it helps eliminate wrong decisions.
For HR professionals, it means:
- making informed people decisions with confidence,
- integrating performance reviews, technical assessments, Gallup-style diagnostics, and more into one coherent view,
- selecting the right people for initiatives, trainings, promotions, or succession planning.
For delivery managers, it means:
- conducting competency audits and talent reviews with ease,
- monitoring growth and setting development goals based on real insights,
- building agile, future-ready teams with precision.
For consulting teams, it means:
- having a clear view of skills availability (even more powerful when combined with an allocation dashboard - everything in one place!),
- matching skills and aspirations to project needs quickly,
- becoming a true trusted advisor by assigning the right people to demanding projects.
The time has come to move beyond beloved Excel - which served us well when nothing else was available. But now, thankfully, we have better tools.

And we walk the talk. Advising is our passion. Our ongoing ambition is to propose tailored, innovative, and advanced solutions based on the broad capabilities of our team members.
We’re trusted advisors to our clients because we collect and connect all competencies and aspirations in our own Hub. It’s the foundation for setting meaningful development goals, tracking progress, and building long-lasting relationships with our clients.
For any consulting or HR team, it’s not just a tool - it’s a necessity.
Your organisation can make this transformation too. The tools exist, the benefits are clear, and the ROI speaks for itself.
